AlarmCase: application for mobile phones

AlarmCase is an application for mobile phones and other mobile devices used for monitoring the phone’s surroundings using the built-in camera.

AlarmCase is developed in the programming language Java and runs on Android 2.1+.

The AlarmCase installation package consists of the AlarmCase.apk which is the standard Android application package.

The AlarmCase installation process is similar to other Android apps installation procedures.

Installation of AlarmCase from personal computer

To install AlarmCase, copy the AlarmCase.apk to your device and open your default application installer. If you do not have an application installer, download one from the market (some free installers include AppInstaller or Astro File Manager). From your installer find the AlarmCase.apk and proceed as with any other Android application. Depending on your device configuration, you might be asked to confirm permissions.

After AlarmCase is installed, you can start it like any other application from the application list, by selecting the AlarmCase app.

AlarmCase is digitally signed by using digital certificate of MP  System LLC ( Sp. z o.o. ) to let the user and its mobile phone unambiguously identify the  application's code.

During the installation procedure you might be asked if you want to install the application on the SD card. We recommend installing AlarmCase in the device internal memory for security and compatibility reasons.

AlarmCase installation requires appx. 0,5 MB of phone's memory  capacity. AlarmCase stores data very effectively and therefore does not require a lot of memory.

Setting permissions

The AlarmCase application is developed in Java programming language for the Android system and therefore takes advantage of its built-in security, restricting in-memory access to its data for other applications.

Additionally, the Android OS increases security by deploying strict access control to the device's resources for all installed applications. Each time the application requests access to the device's shared resources like connectivity, subdevices, memory etc. it obtains it only if the phone's user explicitly permits it. User permissions can be revoked at  any time.

AlarmCase requires these permissions to work properly:

  • access to device's external memory ( read and edit permissions )
  • access to the phone state ( call status )
  • access to the Internet connection ( for sending alarms via E-mail or to a server )
  • access to the phone camera
  • access to the phone contacts (for picking SMS notification contacts)

The application will ask for these permissions when it is being installed
